Fusion Energy Partnership

A planned Co-Programmed Partnership under the Euratom Research and Training Programme, bringing together the European Commission and the European fusion industry-led stakeholders.

What is the Fusion Partnership?

The Fusion Energy Partnership is a planned Co-Programmed Partnership under Euratom, the EU's framework for nuclear research and training.

It formalises a shared, long-term framework for cooperation between the European Commission and FUSION NOW, the Industry-Led Association for Fusion Energy in Europe, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). On the public side sits the European Commission; on the private side, FUSION NOW represents fusion energy member organisations from across Europe.

Objectives and Ambition

The Partnership's ambition is to accelerate the development of fusion energy and help Europe lead its commercial deployment.

It works toward two overarching goals set out in the MoU:

  • Advance technology towards a grid-connected European fusion power plant
  • Build a competitive, sovereign European fusion industrial, supply chain and skills ecosystem

These are broken down further into specific and operational objectives, detailed in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).

Scope and Governance

The Partnership runs from 2026 to 2032.

The European Commission envisages dedicating up to €77 million through Euratom calls for proposals; FUSION NOW's member organisations plan to match this with up to €80 million in in-kind contributions and investment.

A Partnership Board, co-chaired by the Commission and FUSION NOW, steers the cooperation, with FUSION NOW acting as its secretariat.
